Firstly, if your stain is wet you can use soap and water to clean it out. Dampen a clean towel with lukewarm water. Then gently scrub the area that is tinted with a brush. But, only use this if the dye is wet.

However, if the stain has already dried off you can check out the methods below!

Now, these methods are for a more intense stain. If you see that the water and soap method is not working you can use this one.

Method 1: Using Oil

Now, you can use a few different kinds of oil to get the stain off. Olive oil and coconut oil are great options. This is because olive oil causes hair color to fade quickly.

For this, take 1 teaspoon of any of the oil mentioned in your palm. After that apply it along your hairline and on the affected areas. And rub it into the scalp for about 2 minutes and leave it on for 8 hours.

Besides oil, you can also use petroleum jelly to get the stain off. Follow the same method you used for oil.

Now if you’re going to sleep with the oil on, you might need to cover it. You can use a bandage or plastic to cover the area. This is to remove it from staining anything else.

Lastly, to remove this, you can basically rinse it off with warm water.

However, avoid using products that have tea tree oil in them. This is because tea tree oil isn’t safe for color-treated hair

Method 2: Makeup Remover

For this, you can use any type of makeup remover. You can choose from wipes, micellar water, cream, etc.

Now take the one you prefer using and apply it. Massage it into the scalp until the tint fades. Then with lukewarm water wash it off. In the case of micellar water apply it with a cotton pad.

For wipes, scrub the area until there’s no moisture in the tissue! It might take about 1 to 2 minutes.

Now you can use your leftover hair dye to remove the stain. Applying hair dye on the stained spot will activate the color again. Thus it’ll be easier to remove it. However, make sure when applying that you don’t color any of the clean areas.

Use a cotton swab, and in a circular motion apply the color for 30-60 seconds. Then use an exfoliating soap and wet washcloth to wipe the color away.

Lastly, clean the area off with warm water and soap.

The Stain On Your Scalp Is Medium Intensity

These methods are a bit strong for your skin. Therefore only use these if the stain is too intense and is not coming off. Or if the previous methods weren’t strong enough.

However, if you have normal, oily, or combo skin, you’re safe to use it.

To use this, soak a cotton ball or pad with rubbing alcohol. Then gently dab on the affected area. Do this until there is no tint left. After that, using warm water and soap rinse the area. And you should now be stain-free!

Method 2: Toothpaste

Take a pea-size of toothpaste on a cotton swab or your finger. Apply it precisely to the stained area. After that, you’ll massage it in a bit and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes.

After that, take a washcloth and soak it in warm water and remove it. And there, all done!

Method 2: Nail Polish Remover

Now, this too can’t be used on sensitive and dry skin. Therefore, proceed if you don’t fall under this skin type.

Take a cotton pad or ball and dampen it with nail polish remover. Now for this, you need to work really fast. This is because the stain will come off immediately. Moreover, this chemical is strong therefore, the less time it stays on your skin the better.

Now, rub it quickly on the affected area for 5 seconds.  Then clean it off with lukewarm water and soap.

Method 3: Baking Soda And Dish Soap

Well, this is a very effective technique to remove the dye. This is because the baking soda acts as an exfoliator here and the soap as a dye dissolver. Thus they can get the dye off better. You can repeat this process two or more times as needed.

Method 5: Hydrogen Peroxide

Use this one carefully plus don’t use this if you have sensitive skin. To prevent skin irritation use a 10 volume one.

There are two approaches to use this. First, you can wet a cloth with the solution. Or second, you can mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide equally. Then make it a paste.

Now you can apply the solution and quickly give it a little scrub. Then rinse it off with warm water. Make sure to not let this sit on your skin for more than a minute!

How Can I Keep Color From Getting On My Skin?

You can use the following techniques to prevent your scalp from staining.  Here goes:

  • Make a barrier between your hair and your scalp. You can use petroleum jelly, castor oil, vitamin E oil, or conditioner on your scalp. However, make sure you don’t get any of these on your hair. Otherwise, when you dye your hair, your hair might not absorb the color.
  • When coloring, wipe as you go. In this way, the color will not bleed into your skin or stain it! You can even use a headband or saran plastic wrap to block the color from running into your skin.
  • Furthermore, when washing for the first time after coloring, add a coat of oil.  Apply it all over your hairline, and slightly on your scalp as well. And your scalp won’t get tinted.
